It’s All About the Vowels Phonics Program FAQ / Parent Reviews

Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What exactly is The Vowel House?
The Vowel House is a multisensory, Science of Reading-aligned phonics program designed specifically for parents. We take the “guesswork” out of teaching reading by focusing on the “glue” of every word—the vowels.
What age group is this for?
Our curriculum is primarily designed for children in Pre-K through 3rd Grade. However, it is also highly effective for older students who have “reading gaps” or have developed a habit of word-guessing.
How is this different from other phonics apps?
Unlike passive apps where a child just taps a screen, The Vowel House is an active, brain-based program. We use rhythmic chants, rhyme, songs, movement, and color-coded rules to ensure sounds move from short-term memory to long-term mastery.

The Curriculum

Is this aligned with the Science of Reading?

Yes! Every lesson is built on
the pillars of structured literacy. We follow a logical, explicit sequence that moves
from simple CVC words to complex multisyllabic patterns, ensuring no gaps are
left behind.

How many lessons are included?
The full program includes 9 comprehensive online lessons. These cover everything from Short Vowels and Consonant Blends to Silent E, Vowel Teams, Vowel diphthongs, and Bossy R.
Do I need to be a teacher to use this?
Not at all! I created this specifically so parents can feel like experts at their own kitchen table. I walk you and your child through every rule, chant, and sound via the audio components embedded in each lesson.

Technology & Access

Are the lessons downloadable?
To ensure you always have the most up-to-date version of our curriculum and audio files, all lessons are accessed through your personal digital dashboard. You can stream them anytime, anywhere, on any device.
How long do I have access to the materials?
Once you purchase a lesson you have unlimited access. You can revisit the chants and rules as many times as your child needs.

Results & Support

My child is a "Word Guesser." Can you help?
Absolutely. In fact, that is our specialty! We teach children to stop looking at pictures for clues and start looking at the “Vowel Glue.” Our “4-Second Rule” and decoding techniques are designed specifically to break the guessing habit.
How long should we practice each day?
We recommend “Short Bursts of Power.” Just 15 minutes a day, 3–5 times a week, is more effective than one long session. Consistency is the key to making the vowel rules stick!

“As a parent, it’s tough when you hear that your child is not where they should be in reading.

When I asked the teacher about ways to help him, I was told to read with him every day and

work on phonics. I am so glad that I found these teacher-created lessons that are made for parents. I would have never understood how to teach phonics, but these lessons made it so easy! This system of using songs and colors for learning sounds and vowel rules, and then blending them into words, clicked for him in a way other methods hadn’t. He started to experience small wins. It’s All About the Vowels has built his confidence day by day. Now, he’s not afraid to try challenging words, and he likes reading time! He’s catching up to his classmates, and more importantly, he believes in his own ability to read. This phonics program didn’t just teach him to read; it made him want to read.”

“My daughter was a good memorizer of words, but when she came to new words, she was completely stuck. I was worried she wasn’t developing the phonics skills she needed. My friend told me about this program that her child’s tutor created. It didn’t just focus on sight words; it taught my child (and me) the ‘why’ behind how words are sounded out. Learning about different sound patterns and spelling rules gave her the tools to tackle unfamiliar words with confidence.

Her spelling has improved significantly, too, which has been a fantastic bonus! She’s now a much more independent and enthusiastic reader, and I credit this phonics program for building that strong foundation she was missing.”

Susan D.

“Before we started “It’s All About the Vowels”, my son, David, really struggled with reading. He would guess at words and get so frustrated that he’d often just give up. It was heartbreaking to see him lose confidence. Since beginning this program, the change has been incredible. He’s not guessing anymore. He’s actually decoding words! The way this program systematically taught him letter sounds, vowel patterns, and how to blend them made all the difference. Now, he picks up books on his own, and his fluency has improved dramatically. His teacher has also noticed a huge difference in his reading. We’re so grateful we found this program.”

“These phonics lessons have been a game-changer for my child’s reading journey! The structured approach made learning fun and engaging, and I’ve seen incredible progress in just a few weeks. Highly recommend for any parent looking to boost their child’s literacy skills!”

Kathryn Murphy

“Before this program, my son struggled with understanding the sounds of different vowel patterns. This vowel-focused approach made everything click for him. It also helped me understand what is expected of him at school and how to teach him at home. He’s now excited to read signs, menus, and grocery store items. He avoided books before, but now he actually asks if we can read stories together. The parent involvement spelling and comprehension activities are a great way to make sure your child can apply phonics rules. I highly recommend these lessons for any parent !”

“I was amazed at how quickly my kindergartner started picking up reading skills after practicing the first lesson. The song, sounds, and repetition really work, and the progress has been steady and noticeable. This lesson even included her sight words. She was so excited to practice the sight words by herself and tell me this is what she learns at school!! She is now reading short books on her own! Thank you, Vowel House! We can’t wait to start Lesson 2!”

A. Murrey

“These phonics lessons are AWESOME! Our daughter went from the bottom of her class in 1st grade, needing intervention, to the top of her class when beginning her 2nd grade year, just because she understood the vowel rules. We reviewed all 9 lessons over the summer and used the grade-level stories from k12reader.com for reading and comprehension practice to make sure she was on grade level. The way this program focuses on and groups the vowel sounds makes teaching phonics easy. It has made a huge difference in her ability to sound out new words, and we LOVED being able to help her understand phonics rules. We’re thrilled!”.

Terrell Melissa H., Colorado

“I can’t say enough about how much ‘It’s All About the Vowels’ has helped my son. He is in 1st grade and was very frustrated with reading. We had no clue where to start or how to help, so we started with Lesson 1. We are currently on Lesson 5. Now he’s sounding out and reading words that have lesson 1-5 vowel patterns with confidence. The lessons are engaging and easy to follow—even for me as a parent! I’ve seen a huge improvement over the last couple of months .”
